Tikal

Tikal is the larger place excavated of the American continent. Is the more famous natural and cultural reserve of Guatemala.

This majestic archaeological jewel understands 576 square kilometers of forest around the ceremonial center. Tikal remained like a mystery during centuries, after having been abandoned abruptly by the Maya over 1000 years ago and covered by an implacable forest. Only a legend survived among the natives on a city loss, where its ancestros had reached a high cultural development. In 1848 the legend was dispelled, leading to a was of stimulating discoveries.
